Description of work

This gavel and block was made as a gift for a mason of Beeleigh Abbey Lodge, Maldon. The block and the gavel both have the Beeleigh arms on them, pyrographed into the wood, The block also has other inscriptions on the two sides not visible - the mason's name, and a dedication.

Both items are made from acacia, which as well as being a light coloured, tightly grained wood well suited to pyrography, also has symbolic significance for the masons.

For anyone considering a commission based on these items, the guide prices vary according to the amount of pyrography and the detail required. The basic wooden items without pyrography would be around £30.
