Description of work

A 14" platter (a shallow bowl) turned from sycamore forms the base for this pyrographed picture. The subject is St Peter and St Paul's church in Pickering, North Yorkshire, as seen from the grounds of Lady Lumleys School. The time on the clock is 3:35 pm, significant as the end of school. The piece was created to mark a friend's retirement after 32 years at the school. A maths teacher, he was known for his many catch phrases and rhymes by which countless students have remembered various mathemetical facts and theroies pver the years. A selection are pyrographed around the rim.

The platter has a hook on the back, assuming that the picture will be hung rather than displayed flat.
