Description of work

Three boxes made from the same piece of wood - unusually for me an exotic wood, goncalo alves, probably from Brazil. Although I usually use British native wood, I must admit this is delightful wood to turn.

The trio were made for a family celebrating a 60th birthday, a 30th birthday, and a new baby. The coins fitted in the lids are a 1951 two shilling piece (or florin), a 1981 two pence, and a 2011 ten pence piece. Coins can usually be found to commemorate birthdays and other significant anniversaries.

All lids are friction fitting. The boxes are finished with a triple wax system - rouge, white diamond, and finally high polish in carnauba wax.
